Mailbox Installation & Address Signs on San Juan Island
If the fire crew can't find your driveway at night, the address sign isn't doing its job.

On an island with long gravel driveways, unmarked turns, and houses set back in the trees, a clear address sign isn't a nicety. It's how an ambulance or fire engine finds you at night, in the rain, in a hurry.
A good address sign is reflective, has numbers big enough to read from a moving vehicle, is placed where the driveway meets the road, faces the direction of travel, and is high enough not to be hidden by brush or snow. Both sides of the sign help on a two-way road. I install them on posts, gates, or mailbox posts, wherever they'll be most visible.
Mailbox posts are the other half of this job. The rot at the base of a wooden post, the one the snowplow or a delivery truck clipped, the one leaning after a wet winter. I set new posts in gravel or concrete, at the height the post office wants, and mount the box so it opens the right way.
Both are small jobs and usually fit easily into a visit for something else. If you're on property care, ask me to check yours.

Where should the address sign go?
At the end of the driveway where it meets the road, facing traffic, visible from both directions if possible, and clear of brush.
Do you supply the sign?
I can pick one up, or install the one you've bought. Reflective numbers at least three to four inches tall are the minimum worth buying.
Can you fix a mailbox that got hit?
Yes. Usually it's a new post and remounting the box.
