Garage Storage & Organization on San Juan Island
Island garages fill up with boat gear, crab pots, and things that came over on the ferry once.

On the island, the garage does a lot more than hold a car. It's where the kayaks, crab pots, life jackets, camping gear, firewood, tools, and the extra freezer live. When it's organized, it's the most useful room in the house. When it's not, nobody can find the paddles.
I build and install sturdy shelving, wall track and slatwall systems for tools and gear, overhead racks for the stuff you use twice a year, and workbenches that don't wobble. Everything goes into framing or masonry with the right anchors, because a loaded shelf of paint cans on drywall anchors ends up on the floor.
Damp is the island garage's enemy. I'll keep shelving off the slab, recommend sealed bins for anything that mildews, and point out spots where water is getting in that'll ruin whatever you store there.
If you're starting from a packed garage, I can pair it with a dump run to clear what you don't want first. For kayaks and bikes specifically, see storage racks.

Can you build shelves from lumber instead of buying a kit?
Yes. Built-in lumber shelving is often stronger and fits the space better. I'll give you both options.
Can overhead racks hold heavy things?
Within the rack's rating and only when it's fastened into joists. I won't hang one on drywall alone.
Do you do shops and sheds too?
Yes. Same work, and shed repairs if the building itself needs it.
